A Bavarian Countryside Quiz

Time to get your thinking caps on, chaps. I took some shots of the fields surrounding The Village in Bavaria where I grew up. Do you recognise the crop plants?

They are very common – each and every one of you will have consumed them in one way or another, and you’ll be eating foods that contain some of these on a daily basis.

No. 1

Crop plant No. 2:

Cereal

No. 3:

Field

3a

Grain Field

3b

(3a and 3b are the same type of crop, ditto 4a and 4b)

No. 4:

Getreide

4a

Getreide

4b

No. 5

Saat

This last one is no less common, but maybe a bit tricky to identify at this pre-harvest stage. Here’s a hint for you: had I taken this picture in spring time during the flowering period, you’d probably have recognised it instantly.
BTW, you can just about make out the silhouette of the Alps in the background.

So, what are the five crops? Who’s going to get all of them right first?!

If you’re trying to create some intrigue for me, you’re fighting a losing battle! 😉 I’ve far more important things on my mind – like a shopping trip to Birmingham! Yay! Real shops that aren’t charity shops!

Urgh. It’s the ugliest thing. Uglier than even Corby 😦
But, I must confess, I’m so desperate for a Boots and a supermarket that doesn’t smell bad and has decent packaged off, I’d jump at the chance of being teleported to B’ham!

If I never see that girl again… she finished yesterday so I thought I’d have a couple of days of peace. No, she’s decided to stay on for 2 extra nights as it’s free room and board. Never mind that she hasn’t slept in the same bed as her hubby for 5 weeks now – it’s free here, that’s the important thing!

Oh dear…the corn I recognize at once…then I see wheat, what looks like barley…the rest I wouldn’t know unless I cheated and googled 😉 would there be hops there maybe?

LOL – hops is not a grain, but an enormous climbing plant that looks more like ivy than anything else 😉 They grow it on enormous scaffolding frames – it’s a very distinctive sight indeed.

As someone who grew up in southern farm country (USA), the only things I know are corn, wheat, and (the not pictured) soy. Glad I didn’t decide to get into farming!

Wow, ouch! Nah, you should do one on different types of farming equipment, the combines and the tractors and such. Says the girl who spent half her life in Moscow and half in DC/NYC…

    I would say number one for corn, 2-wheat, 3-barley, 4-oat, 5-rapeseed…
I should also say, Anna is the best, Anna for president…

I didnt recognize it on sight but the hint, about this crop in bloom, was my Eureka moment. Those trademark yellow fields of middle Europe….
