…and I’m about to come in for a darn good forking!

Erm…actually, it’s a snap from a family breakfast outing that took place a couple of weeks ago in my birth town in Bavaria. The one with the fork poised for attack is my brother, and that’s my mum on the left.
My categorical cake statement of the day: You can only get a decent poppy seed cake in Germany or Austria.
Oh missy, you MUST add Russia to that list. Our poppy-seed cake is AMAZING.

OK, I do take your word for that! Some excellent cake has come out of Eastern Europe and migrated westwards 🙂

I didn’t even know streusel was a real thing until last year. I thought they were just misspelling strudel on the summer school menu 😉 Looks bloody good though! Definitely forkable 😉

Steusel are living, breathing little… bits you sprinkle on top of a cake! Only my granny knows how to make a proper Strudel.

Might have to visit Germany then 😉

You are clearly a woman of good taste. At least where cake is concerned. And, let’s be frank, that’s all that matters!

I suspect that’s because most nations don’t make poppyseed cake at all 😉
That slice does look good though.

And why not?!? A dire oversight, a gaping hole in their culinary repertoire, a gross neglect of cake worship!
My bro’ certainly enjoyed it. I was too stuffed from a huge breakfast to even contemplate cake at that moment.

I’m not a big fan of poppy seed after the time I mistook it for chocolate filling as a(n apparently farsighted) child. It was never the same…

Ah yes, I can see that that would be weird for an uninitiated youngster 😉
I love it, but can’t get it anywhere except back ‘home’!

Like Anna said, they have it here in Russia, but it seems a pretty contained phenomenon. (I tried it in Connecticut in the area where there were lots of Germans/Austrians, so I guess that makes sense.)

I gotta admit, I haven’t had a decent poppy seed cake in ages. My mom makes a rather good one… and its certainly something familiar from Winnipeg.
But… Mumbai? Jakarta? Rather scarce commodity here! So STOP making all us folks jealous that can’t indulge.
