Several of you (no need to mention names, we all know who you are!) have been bugging me about Portuguese men since my trip to Lisbon.
I’ve not been giving the “homens” nearly as much attention as The Cakes, but one can’t be too selfish with a raucous audience to please. So, I’ve rifled through my photos and picked out those featuring male specimens. Though I can’t vouch for their representativeness…
Surely, this is what every girl dreams about:
…but maybe dreamy boys are more your thing…?
Now here’s one who’s made an effort! Ready for your date??
Now that’s more like it!
Ha ha! You’ve covered all the bases there, including the cute puppy shot. Well done : )

Hmm, I would have said ‘dreamy’ was my thing until I saw those two 😉 I then spent a scary amount of time trying to work out if Santa was cute under the beard or not (I think so) before hitting the jackpot with the sword guy 😉 Puppy schmuppy…

Well, Santa was tall, at least, which is quite a rarity in these parts 😉

Are Spanish men taller then??

Nope. We, on the other hand, are slightly above average height, I’d say.

Is that the royal ‘we’ or the German ‘we’ 😉 I met the most beautiful German guy I’ve ever seen the other day. Possibly one of the best looking guys I’ve ever seen! Maybe a move to Germany is on the cards – except you guys generally speak English very well anyway!

That’s the “you-and-I we”.
Not sure the country is big enough for you and Lash-Me or whatever she’s called 😉

Lash-me is my stage name 😉 I am most assuredly not above average height – well not in many countries anyway! The other night I went out with 3 Dutch guys – I was up to their rib cages 😉

Hilarious! More please! And maybe someone can contribute instructions on how to prepare Giant Portuguese Squash?

You know… I harbour the suspicion that squash has a lot in common with men. May look and taste a bit different, depending on where you are, but they work just the same.

Yes, after being exposed to a little heat, they go all soft.

I think I’d take a risk and go with Santa — even without seeing under the beard. Tall gets a lot of extra points in my book!

I notice one of the guys who was too tired to work had an Australia shirt on. Now you know about the work ethic here! A very nice series of photos: what camera and zoom lens do you use?

Yes, I did indeed notice the shirt 🙂
I have a cheap digital camera, an Olympus VR-325, and I know nothing about photography. Nada.

Well you have a natural talent then; the photos of the windows were great and so were the up and down shots. I am glad you like the pasteis de nata in Belem; I reckon the ones here in Sydney are better (I live near the Portuguese district). I am guessing the photo of the hunky guard was taken outside a palace near the cake shop in Belem? The PM or President’s residence? I took similar shots myself there on my last visit. All your photos brought back happy memories for me. Thank you

Aw, I’m glad they brought back happy memories. I’ll be putting more up over this coming week. I’ve also got a few nice ones of Sintra.
The guard – I have no idea, embarrassing or what! I snapped him somewhere in the Bairro Alto area.

Hi again, looking forward to the Sintra episode. Funny you should mention the teaching, over the past few days I bumped into an Australian who teaches at The Wall Street Institute in Paris and she said they are always looking for teachers there (as you said was the case with that school in Toledo that you barged into, haha). I would really love to do a “gap year” teaching somewhere exotic, and will look closely at it. In the meantime I will try to get some teaching experience here while juggling some journalistic responsibilities. What about you? You said you would like to do such a course. Are you likely to this year?

What an opportunity – grab it with both hands! BUT you could just as easily get work in Spain or Portugal. The Latin World is your oyster, even without teaching experience 😉
This year… not sure. If so, then in the second half of 2014. I’ve got a move to Madrid planned in the spring, and until that is out of the way, I can’t even conceive of embarking on any other big projects.
