OK… I must confess… this is not purely a Friday indulgence. I order this just about every time I set foot in La Pepa, a café/restaurant/bar five minutes from my house.
And no, in case you’re wondering, the waiter did not drop it onto the floor, nor did I molest it with my all-too-eager fork before it occurred to me to take a picture. That’s how it arrives on the plate.
This, my friends, is one good apple pie. Cosmetically challenged it may be, but darn good. A generous quantity of cinnamon makes perfect music with the apple slices, which are perfect soft-and-chunky consistency. It’s not too sweet. The crust is rich and buttery.
According to the menu, it comes with vanilla ice cream, but I always order it without. I find it overpowers the subtle notes. But I do ask them to heat it up.
