Eat ’em raw, swallow ’em whole!

Andalucía – and Cádiz in particular – has the most fabulous array of seafood. On our way down there last weekend, Maria was waxing lyrical about “camarones”, tiny shrimp sold in cups or cones, eaten on the go, just as they come. And, as you can see, she found some:

The little blighters didn't stand a chance...

Camarones

Fresh sea urchins, anyone?

...and you eat them raw, although, unlike the camarones, without the shell, I suppose ;-)

Some cod's roe

...and made into a nice salad. Tasty and nutritious! The shrimp frittatas in the background were divine :)

And, to finish off on a complete non sequitur,  some puzzling… uhm… street art:

Raw? um…maybe not! I like to make sure the food I eat is very dead, preferably fried and lathered in spices.

As for the art – I’m not sure I can better Nancy’s interpretation.

      I think it’s dead alright 😉
But am with you on the spices front, definitely.

As for the wall scrawl, I’ve got my hopes pinned on Linda and on Kim. Let’s wait and see…

I’ll take the shrimp frittatas, but you can keep the rest! As for the street art, well I have known women with balls, but this one takes the biscuit – or cake if you prefer!

What are those black dots on that, ah…. strange looking shrimp? And I really like shrimp ceviche, or shrimp cocktail.

Raw shrimp?? Eeeeew. I’m not even that keen on them cooked – more than 1 or 2 and I feel a bit sick. I don’t even want to imagine what they taste like raw :-/

The street art is… interesting. It appears to be a headless woman giving birth to a dragon?

I know… they have some fantastic fried fish, with a really thin, tasty batter – delicious! I’d never had that anywhere, and I’m not usually that keen on battered fried fish.

Yes, raw, with shells on and everything. I much preferred the frittatas, which also contain the whole little creature providing just the perfect degree of crunchiness 😉
