On our Andalusia trip three weeks ago, rather than snapping away at the region’s dramatic landscapes, outstanding culinary delights and splendid beaches, Maria decided to turn her camera on me instead.
I was totally oblivious to her surreptitious mission to capture my hunchback poses and contorted grimacing until it was all over.
Here is what she sent me:
Cornering a defenceless dessert in a tapas restaurant. If only I could muster that degree of concentration while I was doing the work I’m actually paid to do …
These were taken in sunny Cádiz:
The seagull played hard to get. Every time I’d lock it into focus, the blasted bird would hop an inch further away from me. I’m guessing the Medusa hair didn’t help…
Flowers can’t escape. But don’t these damn things shake, rattle and roll in a stiff seaside breeze!
At least a cathedral can be trusted to remain steadfast.
There’s nothing like getting your lens splashed with murky salt water…
Those trees are amazing.
A pic from Algeciras beach, with Paula (Maria’s sister) and her happy, bouncy, delightful dogs:
Am too busy for jollities. I’m homing in on Gibraltar…
And here we are, on Gibraltar:
No wonder the monkeys dashed off in a wild panic earlier on, I must have given them the same scary look…!
The last two pics originate from the little mountain top village of Castellar:
Cute village lane
I do love a handsome orange tree 🙂
So, has anyone played candid camera on you recently? And are you still talking to them…?
Ha ha! The non-monkey shot is the scariest. How funny that you were photographed : )

Hoho…great image of the defenceless desert being pursued by a woman on a mission. I am most impressed that despite your love of cakes/food generally you are quite a slender being. How can that be possible? Running after monkeys? Anyway, to cut to the chase,I’d be off to Castellar…looks very photogenic.

I love Castellar! There is a lovely little artist’s shop there that sells little semi precious jewels to hang round your neck, I have one on at the moment. The views from up there are amazing on a clear day too.
And how nice to see you! I imagined you to be a little round ‘effalump with your passion for cake – but apparently not! 🙂

I can only maintain concentration for two and a half minutes max, perfect for taking photos. Not so much for essential tasks connected to daily life, though 😉

Actually, I came by this coat via the first commenter in the thread. She had a fantastic vintage clothes shop a few years ago just down the road from me in North London. Oh, the gems I dug out of there… and I’ve still got most of them.

I’m not sure whether it is real leather or not… it’s the material of 1970’s car seats (and it actually is from that time 😉

Ah, Naugahyde! It does have a 70s look. But a well-cut coat never goes out of style.

Haha, brilliant, though I have to wonder why you have your back to that lovely orange tree you rave about! I suspect a delightful blue door has caught your attention. Oh, and I truly sympathise with the Medusa hair – mine is similar, or at least it was until recently. Now it is a little less wild – must be the hormones…

And yes – hair and hormones. Mine was straight (with a slight kink) until my late 20’s. No idea what happened… in which case, us women are allowed to blame it hormones 😉

If you haven’t already, you should read “La Reina Del Sur,” by Arturo Perez-Reverte which takes place in and around where you spent the day. It’s the gripping tale of a Mexican woman who, fleeing from her narcotraficante lover’s murders, ends up in Algeciras and becomes the one of the main drug traffickers in the Mediterranean.
