I Spy, I Spy With My Little Eye…

…the curiosities on offer in my local butcher’s.

I bought some rather boring chicken thighs with the intention of making a giant curry, in case anyone’s wondering.

Is it me, or is it looking a bit sheepish...?

In case you’ve missed them, here are two more typical local offerings:

It is used fire stock here, but I think I’ve heard people also like to eat right from it when grilled. No eyes though, first time I see it ready for sale with the eyes.

It’s funny what you find in other cultures. I must admit I can’t see myself cooking this, but some people eat eyeballs and well, I have heard in Spain that they eat bull’s unmentionables so I guess a sheep’s head is pretty tame. Not sure about those snouts though…

“Unmentionables” are quite commonly consumed in lots of places… a while back an Icelandic friend made me eat some sheep’s ones… not bad at all. For me, a lot depends on the texture. I’m not a fan of ‘too squishy’ 😉

I’m glad I read the comments before I opened the links. I’m also glad I had beef today, and my brisket was quite good. I’m also glad I passed over that top picture quite quickly before any part struck a chord!!

I must confess, I was a bit worried about you, in particular, when I put this up… glad to hear your recovery was virtually instant. I mean, a sheep’s head and a donut have very little in common. Though you could probably fit an eyeball nicely in the middle of the latter, if you were so inclined…

Ok, feeling slightly sick now…for some reason, I took another look at the picture to see if an eyeball really would fit in the middle of my donut. Yes, it would. No, I wouldn’t be eating it!
