Q: What do two freelancers do on a Tuesday afternoon? A: What they bloody well like!
So, off to Madrid we went, Maria and I, to peruse the Mitos Del Pop exhibition laid on by the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. (Whoever decided on this tongue twister of a name???)
Madrid Metro – Puerta Del Sol. A bit ‘Pop Art’, don’t you reckon?!
Entrance to the exhibition, with Maria waiting for me to get a move on.
There can be no Pop Art without Soup cans! Photo taken in the Museum shop, not the exhibition itself. And the staff told me off 😦
Let’s move onto the food. We opted for Vietnamese 🙂
Spring rolls, the non-fried version. Fresh, crunchy, chewy and delicious.
Stir fried pork with peanut sauce
I was always impressed with Chinese food in Madrid. Come on, Moscow, catch up!

When you’re in London in October, go to Chinatown 🙂

If they let me in. I don’t think they’re giving RT ppl visas right now. At all. For reals. Sh*t just got REAL.

Seriously?! That’s like… press censorship…!

Unfortunately I am corporate, I dont have a press card, so I cant use that argument!

It sucks! Everybody and their dog can enter the UK, including rabid preachers of hatred, but not you, Polly’s husband or my friend’s (Chinese) girlfriend – I just don’t understand how these things work 😦

I dont understand about the Russky, he’s a Good Russian! Btw, if you;re a Russian billionaire crook, the UK hands out residency like child predators hand out candy. UGH.

Were the soup cans for sale then? With or without soup…?

I have no idea… didn’t look like it, though. Didn’t see a price tag.

No Pho? I can’t go to Vietnamese and not order Pho. 🙂
p.s. those fresh rolls are the best! (Although I refer to them as the ‘condom ones’, when discussing menu choices with hubby, to distinguish from the deep fried version.

They truly are ‘safe’ 😉

I’m still playing catch-up on posts from the summer and your comment on this one made me laugh out loud. I will forever think of “condom rolls” when ordering now. 😀

🙂 To this day I still refer to them as the ones with the condom wrappers. 🙂

I love a good forbidden photo. They’re always the best! Plus, am I the only one to have been severely deprived of Asian food? I’ve never had the luxury of opting for a Vietnamese dish!

You’ll have some as soon as you get round to learning the language, I bet 🙂

I’m quite sure of it! Until then, I will watch and read blogs in wonderment.

Would you recommend the Mitos del Pop? I’ve seen the posters and have been curious about it.
Also–where did you try the Vietnamese food? A co-worker of mine of Vietnamese heritage used to make the most flavor-popping meals and I’d love to discover a good Vietnamese restaurant here.

Well, it’s not as extensive as I had hoped, but it was quite good fun. €11, plus another €3 for an audio guide is pushing it a bit, I think.
Restaurant: Viet Nam (how original!) http://www.vietnamrestaurante.es C/.Huertas 4

Ha, I agree about the original name. Perhaps I’ll have to give it a go, thanks!

Mmm, that food looks GOOOOOD! Waiting for my dinner to cook so I may be biased though 😉
Hope you gave as good as you got in the shop!

I don’t understand their rules. When we entered, they said we could take pics anywhere in the museum, but not in the exhibition itself. I took the shop to be “anywhere in the museum”.

I would too! Confusing 😉

Just some mince and veg and potatoes 🙂 It will probably be horrible!

Nah. Sounds like something that can’t possibly go wrong. I’ve taken to boiling up large cauldrons of lentils, veg and chorizo. Totally delicious every time!

Yum 🙂 Well, I’m only as good as my ingredients and I suspect the mince may be crap…

ditto the chorizo! But it’s the crap stuff that supplies all the flavour 🙂

Freelancer free time is hard to argue with.
“What’s that, it’s 10am on a Tuesday and you’re having an Aperol Sprizz?”
“Why yes, yes I am.”
And fresh spring rolls are one of my favorite things, hope you enjoyed them!

Oh, we so did 🙂 Fantastic amount of garlic in that food, though. It’ll have worn off by tomorrow, so those people next to me on the plane won’t be shooting me evil looks 😉

Oh, I could murder one of those spring rolls, with a nice peanut dipping sauce. There’s very little in the way of Asian food here. I bought rice paper wraps a few weeks ago and am now motivated to make a batch of those tasty rolls!

Yes, I love that! I hope to do that myself one day. 🙂

It has its drawbacks… but I think I’m pretty much unemployable now where any kind of ‘normal’ job is concerned. You’ll get there 🙂

I am very fond of spring rolls. My sister in law is Vietnamese, so I’ve had some good ones!

I walked to the Puerta del Sol nearly every day, and I never took the Metro, and now I feel like I missed so much!

I much prefer walking… you see so much more. We could have walked, but it was 38 degrees… we just couldn’t face it.

The metro stations in Europe are so much more fun than in the states, so at least you get an entertaining view!

Love a well-decorated metro! (Guess that’s why I have a soft spot for Moscow.)
And I will echo all of Anna’s sentiments: London doesn’t want any fun foreigners coming apparently and I’ve only been in Russia for a week and I’m already crying over the lack of food diversity. Cabbage and cucumbers for life over here 😦

You know, I was travelling today, and it struck me just how diabolical the food offering is at Madrid airport. LHR is fab for food, and so is Munich.
But, aw, Moscow needs to sort itself out! That’s not good for a capital city, no good at all!
