Pretty Bavaria: Landshut

On Tuesday, mum and I made another foray into Lower Bavaria. This time our destination was the splendid city of Landshut,  50 minutes east of Munich by train.

Landshut was founded in 1204. It was a seat of government, before Bavaria was eventually united and Munich became the official capital.

Apparently, Landshut is one of Bavaria’s richest cities. And it certainly is very pretty. I’ll let the pics do the talking…

You didn't think that there wasn't a cake break, did you...?! Mum had the strawberry cake, and I the Mohnschnecke. I guess you'd call it a poppy seed Danish. BTW, I HATE having to call this heavenly family of baked goods "Danish", because they are very much a Central European thing and have nothing whatsoever to do with bloody Denmark!

    Lovely buildings, lovely cakes …. but I’m caught at the sculpture photo. Sculpture or street art? The more I look, the more I think it is an actor in gold paint, waiting for euros to get tossed in his copper goblet. Right?

      Yes, he’s a street artist, and those types are pretty common. You get them in gold, silver, bronze, stone… The reason I took his pic is because he’d positioned himself right underneath the “oro vivo” (living gold) sign, which would be lost on most Germans 😉

    My favorites are the doors! Between the charming architecture and the pastries, it is quite a destination. That’s about all I need for a perfect holiday… other than a few beverages.

    Nice pics. Colors are indeed great and does justice to Bavaria. And the cake sure looks great. Well… at least one of the cakes does. The other one, though most probably very delicious, fruity and all, unfortunately IMO does look a bit like a terrible attempt to arrange some sausages into a pie

        I’ve no doubt they both tasted great. but that was actually my first impression ‘Vow, a sausage plate and a cake in a background, how unusual for you’. Then it dawned on me that these are BOTH cakes 🙂

    The architecture reminds me of Amsterdam. …or Copenhagen…so…maybe the Danish moniker on that dessert was fitting? After all, who wants to eat a poppy seed Dutch? 🙂

    ooohhh Nice! Those fronts look like something off a movie set. That pic of the blue door is really cool for two reasons. I like the door and it’s colour for one. Two, you managed to get the hand rail slap bang in the middle so we can see the arty-farty door.

    I know I’m looking at these posts in the wrong order, but what can I say?
    It looks like such a pretty city – it has a small town feel to it. I especially like the first photo. The houses look like a movie set 🙂
