On Friday, my friend Maria and I sacrificed yet another perfectly good working day on the altar of freelance rebellion. We went AWOL in Madrid, which entailed some glorious food, a thought-provoking exhibition of photographs taken in 1960’s Barcelona by the legendary Eugeni Forcano, and a peruse of the latest scriptures laid out in The Temple (aka Casa Del Libro, a massive bookshop).

Let’s ogle the food. (I could eat it all over again right now…!) Maria chose a Thai restaurant called Thaidy, where we had a great three-course lunch for a mere €12.50 each.

The basil and chilli beef was seriously hot – but that’s what we asked for, and we loved it! The green curry had just a tad too much salt, but it was still enjoyable.

        That’s because I always start cooking when I’m already hungry, and when it’s done I’m positively famished. Gravel would taste good to me at that point, as long as it had grated cheese on top.

      It’s one of my favourite things! Bizarrely, 90% of UK pubs seem to do ‘Thai’ food these days… luckily, it’s really hard to fatally screw up a green curry (which is what most of them are serving).

    Fiiiiiiine, I”ll go wash my windows too….. >.< It never struck me to get "ethnic" food while I was there – I think I was too into the idea of eating "Spanish" food that I forgot all about everything else. Looks like I missed out!

    You little tease! I was hoping for a completely different kind of dirty selfie… Love the idea of going AWOL, scarfing down loads of luscious Thai food and enjoying the delights of the Casa del Libro (what, no pictures???)

      I get plenty of ‘interesting’ search hits already, lol, this can’t make things any worse! 😉

      It’s still very hot, we nearly died walking from the restaurant to the exhibition… late nights out on the terraces with a cold drinks are glorious, though.

    You know those games where you’re asked, if you had to pick one type of food to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? My answer is always Thai. I’m not sure I would ever tire of if.

        yes indeedy!! I bought a copy of The Little Prince in Spanish (El Principito) there on our last trip. and I’ve read it nearly 3 times 😉 hubby loves the store too even tho he doesn’t speak Spanish.

    I just read a great book “Half Broke Horses” – that woman’s cooking compared to all your eating adventures …. it is too funny a juxtaposition (hint: EVERYTHING is boiled or roasted or fried “with salt.” period) The Thai food looks great …. but is it “with salt”? ha ha.

    I like the idea of a freelance job. I also like the idea of skipping a day of freelance work to go to photographic exhibitions and to eat Thai food. Sounds like Madrid is going well?
