To comfort ourselves over the sad demise of the sparkly wintery snowscape, my friend Peggy laid on a festive afternoon coffee:

    ooohhh, I do like that lonely tree in the sunset. Fantastic!!

    That poor snowman…. I don’t like Murricun cookies, they’re too soft and mushy for me. I grew up on biscuits and not the dry corn things they call biscuits here and eat for breakfast.

    Oh wow, the sunset through the trees is gorgeous! I hope you had a really wonderful New Year. We got a bit of snow, but it melted pretty much within an hour. I’m not complaining though – walking to work would not be so much fun!

    And flour, sugar, baking powder, butter, eggs, chocolate 🙂

    I’d trade winter wonderland for some cake any time. Unfortunately, I think I’ll just blame Linda, who apparently got so cold and all Eskimo in Berlin that she’d just willed all the snow due north and now I’m freezing and like literary knee deep in snow. Any one has a spare shovel so that I can dig out my car tomorrow? 😀

        and now I just have meself a shovel – first to shovel my car out of a snowbank, and then beat Linda with it 😉 And then I’d gladly have some (and in ‘some’ I mean lots of) cake 😀

        well thinking of you all this week dear lady of the cakes – and I hope your new year is off to a good start – we are embarking for a chilly weekend (and maybe snow) this weekend – after having it reach almost 70 last weekend – so it is very unpredictable here too –

        Impossible to get here in Russia and from what I understand a lot of other places. Really too bad as it’s SUCH a struggle to chop up chocolate by hand 😉

    Snow is so pretty the first few hours and then it turns into a nasty gray sludge before it disappears. They’re actually predicting snow for London on Wednesday. Won’t hold my breath. It was supposed to snow over the weekend, but it didn’t.

Gorgeous sun set shot!! I got a nice sunset in Munich the other day too.

    Beautiful sunset picture! I uttered something aloud when I saw it, and no one is even home to hear me. 🙂 Chocolate chip cookies – I make them often, and every German who has tasted them goes mad for them. I use Backpulver (baking powder) and regular flour, make sure to add crushed nuts OR extra flour because otherwise they will go flat and hard, BUT…..you cannot get “Nestle Semi-sweet Chocolate Morsels” in Germany unless you are willing to pay a truckload to order 12 overpriced packages through Amazon. Do not use German chocolate chips found in tiny packages in the baking section. They are too sweet, and they just don’t work. I haven’t yet tried crushing bars of halbbitter chocolate. Every time someone comes to visit and asks me what they can bring me, I say “Nestle _semi-sweet_ chocolate chips!” and I stock up every time I go back.
    I agree about the dough – I eat that while I bake! 🙂

      Ah, now that is a useful tip for those who are baking-inclined 😉 I didn’t ask my friend about the chocolate issue, I just thought that Dr Oetker or someone made something suitable…
